We have started a planting programme to provide the factory with its firewood needs in the coming years by planting Eucalyptus (E. Grandis).
In addition, we supply farmers with plants to be able to grow trees which the factory will buy back in the future, thus generating an alternative cash crop for the farmers.
The trees are very quick growing and are ready for harvesting seven years after planting and require virtually no maintenance after the first three years. When they are harvested, they will coppice producing two or three suckers which will also develop into trees for a future harvest about five years later. An annual harvesting rotation is followed to ensure a constant supply of wood.
