Sorting & Packing

After the drying process, any fibre remaining in the tea is extracted by several sets of rollers which use static electricity to remove the small and light fibre particles. This is a particularly effective method of fibre removal and so, coupled with the fibre extraction in the Fluid Bed Dryer; our main grades are virtually free of fibre.

Since the quality of the green leaf from the fields varies according to the season and the standard of the plucking, the fibre content of the tea is similarly affected. Thus, there is a seasonal variation in the proportion of primary grades and secondary grades that we produce.

The main grades that we produce are Broken Pekoe (BP1), Pekoe Fannings (PF1), Pekoe Dust (PD) and Dust 1 (D1). The grades are determined by the size of the individual grains of tea with the D1 being the smallest and the BP1 being the largest. Our vibroscreen at the end of the sorting line separates and divides the tea by particle size.

After grading, the made tea is transferred to stainless steel storage bins from which we can automatically fill and pack paper sacks ready for export.
